Grade 4s and Shakespeare

It is very interesting to observe how our little Grade 4s are interpreting the plays of Shakespeare.
I asked them, as their final project for the literacy week to make a theatrical poster and to include the main point of the book .
Some of them drew the setting, some of them used actual lines from the book and some of them went really deep.
The first 4 posters are displayed at the library :)
1st place: Ayden with his "King Lear" - 2nd place: Wilbur with his "Richard III", 3rd place our "unknown" student with the "Tempest" and fourth place, Taichi with his "Macbeth"
You may enjoy more artwork of Shakespeare's plays on your way to the library:

"Othello" by Shunta

"A Midsummer Night's Dream" by Hannah

"Antony and Cleopatra" by Maria

"Julius Ceasar" by Edison

"Hamlet" by Julia

"Romeo and Juliet" by Abigail

Grade 6 : Performing Arts and Literacy Week

This week we will be working with the Devised Drama concepts.

The 6th graders need to be inspired just by looking at a picture and come up with major and minor characters, sets and props and - of course - write a script for a 5- minute one act play.

Here are some pictures from their first try:

Working on a simple choreography - Grade 2

Working really hard for the assembly's performance on Friday, January 30th.
Just wanted to share our efforts with you :)

Literature Week: Grade 1: Tikki Tikki Tembo (Story telling course)

"Three decades and more than one million copies later children still love hearing about the boy with the long name who fell down the well. Arlene Mosel and Blair Lent's classic re-creation of an ancient Chinese folktale has hooked legions of children, teachers, and parents, who return, generation after generation, to learn about the danger of having such an honorable name as Tikki tikki tembo-no sa rembo-chari bari ruchi-pip peri pembo."

With the Grade 1 we will read the book and we will be introduced to the concept of storytelling.
The students will discuss the characters  of the book and we will have fun creating and illustrating a unique character with a really long name!

You can watch the video of the book here:

Literature Week Grade 2: "The Rainbabies" by Laura Krauss, illustrated by Henri Sorensen

In the magic of a moonshower, a childless couple finds a dozen tiny babies in a meadow.
Written in classic folktale tradition, illustrated with astonishing paintings, The Rainbabies is woven from magic and moonbeams.

This week, the Grade 2 will be introduced to the book and we will discuss the feelings of the main characters.

We will try to find as many adjectives we can for our acting dictionary and we will make a small storyboard, as if the book was going to be a theatrical play.
We will use props, sets  and costumes  and we will display at the library the three best storyboards.

You can take a look of the book, by watching the video below:

Remembering our 'Annie"

The new movie of "Annie" will be out in Taiwan by the end of January, and I thought it would be a nice idea to make a small movie with all the highlights from our performance, back in 2012 for the old members to remember and the new to learn :) Enjoy !
